Come summertime, I believe most children turn into amphibious creatures. Ours are no exception, even though the temperatures don't warrant it. Sure, it might only be 53 degrees outside, and the kids are fully clothed and wearing a jacket; they don't care. Almost as soon as we head outside, they make a beeline for the water. We sometimes even set up a kiddie pool out front, but this is not your typical backyard pool experience. Some days, the kids go through three outfits in the course of their daily activities.
The girls are now big enough to fit into the hand-me-down wetsuits from the kids' cousins, and they love splashing around in them.

For a while, they were asking to go out in their wetsuits every. single. day. After a particularly long spell of rainy weather, Karamea was badgering us to go swimming in her wetsuit long before the clouds were gone. It was still misty outside and she told us, "It’s sort of sunny out there, can we please go swimming in
our wet suits?”
Mark even found an old wetsuit and joined them, and swam out to one of our
boats, climbed in, and jumped in, which the girls found extremely
amusing.
Our fishing site has a long ramp, and when the tide is really high, the water laps the bottom of the ramp. We also happen to have a sled, and sledding down the ramp is sort of a rite of passage in our family. I even took a trip down the ramp on my first trip to Alaska when I met Mark.
The girls didn't particularly enjoy sliding down the ramp, but they had fun floating on the sled in the water.
