Merrick at 23 Months

Merrick is such a happy boy, and has gotten really good at asking for things nicely and saying "please" and "thank you". When he wakes up, one of the first things he often says is "Kaylee" and then he runs off to find her and give her a hug. When he is really happy, he sings. And not just any song--He sings "Amen, Amen, Amen" like a little gospel singer. We sometimes sing that song after saying grace at dinnertime, and he has picked up on it.
When we take pictures, he says a very exaggerated "cheese" and has a goofy grin.

He is getting into some 24 month shirts and 18 month pants are starting to fit him now. As he grows, he takes some pretty hard knocks, but he isn't down for long. The most recent one involved pinching his hand in a bi-fold closet door.

We recently watched a documentary about bears, and he snuggled close in my lap and was making some 1-2 word commentaries on the things we were seeing: Bear splash! Doggie! [really a wolf] Swimming! Bug! Fish! He repeated most of these several times to make sure I was listening.

He also figured out how to snap recently, or at least his own version. After watching his oldest sister snap, he figured out how to click his tongue and open his fingers at the same time so it sounds like he is actually snapping his fingers. He can make some other pretty amazing sound effects, too.
In some ways, it is hard to believe he will be 2 next month (in a few weeks, really) and then in others, it already seems like he is 2. It is amazing to see the big boy he is becoming!  I was blown away by the realization of how big he is getting when he went on his first pony ride when we visited the Stock Show in Denver.
